The Bird Loop Trail is accessed by proceeding east from the parking area trailhead, past the Forest Education Center and the across the bridge located at the end of Education Center lawn area. After crossing the bridge, proceed to the left (downstream) along Plunkett Creek. After a short walk along the creek, the mile loop begins just after crossing a graveled driveway. The Bird Loop trail travels through mixed habitats including Oak Savanna as well as dense Douglas-fir, and offers views to the northwest of Kings Valley. There is little elevation change, the trail is graveled and easily accessible year round with makes it an ideal outing for families. An octagon shelter is situated about midway along the loop allowing a comfortable place to relax and watch for the variety of bird species that frequent this part of the open woodland.
