Located in the Oak Creek area of McDonald Forest, Uproute Trail can be accessed from the Oak Creek gate, which sits at the end of NW Oak Creek Drive. The Oak Creek gate is home to an information kiosk with brochures, a trash can, dog waste bags, and a port-a-potty. Uproute Trail can be accessed by following the 600 Road north until it forks, and then veering west onto the 6020 Road. After a distance of just under one mile, the 6020 Road becomes Uproute Trail. The northern end of Uproute Trail connects with Extendo Trail and the 680 Road. At this point, visitors can choose to hike the 680 Road to the 600 Road, head south on Extendo Trail, or return on Uproute Trail. Uproute Trail passes through an area of McDonald Forest that is managed as mature forest for many types of wildlife to call home. Some tree species grown within this area are harvested to produce wood products used for building materials. Uproute Trail is a multiple-use trail open year-round to hikers, bikers, and equestrians. This trail is almost three-quarters of a mile in length with a 72 foot gain in elevation. Mountain bikers often take Uproute Trail in order to reach the top of Extendo Trail. Uproute Trail is well graveled but is susceptible to erosion and muddy areas due to its high amount of use and steepness. Watch out for muddy patches during the rainy season!
